Comforters, Pillows and Mattress Pads

What does "hypoallergenic" really mean?

MISSION: ALLERGY® pillows, comforters and mattress pads should not be confused with items sold as "hypoallergenic". The term hypoallergenic refers only to the fact that the fabric or the interior stuffing of an item does not itself directly cause allergy. However, allergic reactions to fabrics are almost never reactions against the fabric or stuffing. Rather, they are reactions to things that have grown in the item, most commonly dust mites.

The term "hypoallergenic" does NOT mean that the item cannot become colonized with dust mites and accumulate mite allergen over time! That ability requires an effective allergen-barrier that mites are unable to penetrate, and from which any minute allergen particles cannot escape. MISSION: ALLERGY® pillows, comforters and mattress pads are manufactured with a Premium Microfiber allergen-barrier exterior, and thus cannot become colonized with dust mites. They therefore will not accumulate mite allergen, and do not require periodic warm-water washing to kill mites and remove allergen.
